Shawn Rumery Joins Solar and Storage Industries Institute

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Solar and Storage Industries Institute (SI2) announced that market research expert Shawn Rumery will join SI2 as senior program director.

At SI2, Rumery will lead the organization’s programmatic work, including areas related to solar siting and permitting, interconnection, and agrivoltaics, as well as the organization’s external affairs activities.

“Shawn has been an invaluable partner to SI2 during his tenure at SEIA, and I am thrilled to welcome him to the team full-time,” said David Gahl, executive director of SI2. “His data analysis expertise, market knowledge, and deep understanding of policy issues facing firms today will support SI2’s mission to speed up the renewable energy transition through clean energy research and analysis.”

Rumery comes to SI2 after nearly 13 years at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), where he served most recently as senior director of research.

“I could not be more excited to join SI2 at this critical moment in the energy transition,” said Rumery. “Solar and storage markets are growing rapidly, and our research needs to keep pace with this growth if we want to quickly decarbonize the grid and avert climate disaster. The work SI2 does to remove barriers to equitable solar and storage deployment is vital and I’m eager to contribute.”

During his time at SEIA, Rumery led SEIA’s research and analysis efforts and authored the U.S. Solar Market Insight report series. Rumery’s market impact research has underpinned many moments in industry history including research that influenced the extension of the solar Investment Tax Credit in 2016 and the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Rumery’s insights also helped the industry assess the damaging effects of numerous trade cases and navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rumery is a seasoned spokesperson and market research expert who has appeared on numerous panels and in dozens of articles over the years.
